THE CHALLENGE
Turnover rates were disrupting Printpack’s production line efficiency
With 75% of its workforce in hourly positions, Printpack faced a significant challenge when COVID-19 caused spikes in turnover, impacting production timelines and customer deliveries. The company needed a way to identify why employees were leaving and proactively adjust hiring and retention strategies to prevent further disruptions. However, Printpack struggled with extracting actionable workforce insights from its existing systems.
Workday lacked the ability to easily present and analyze HR data in a way that helped us solve business challenges,” said Brandon Fox, HR Data & Analytics Manager. “I could see a 12-month rolling turnover for all locations, but when asked to slice the data further—such as isolating employees with one to two years of tenure—it would take days to recalculate everything.”
To protect its manufacturing productivity and meet customer demand, Printpack needed an analytics solution that could surface critical workforce insights quickly and help measure the effectiveness of retention initiatives.

For example, what was effective in Grand Prairie, Texas may not work in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
